RNC Response to DNC’s Statement on Hispanics
Last week, Howard Dean issued a statement regarding Hispanic, which included the following:
“Today Democrats are building momentum across the country, and building stronger ties than ever with the Hispanic community. The Democratic Party shares the Hispanic community’s values centered on family, faith, and hard work, and our candidates offer the new direction the American people want.
Today, Hessy Fernandez who is the Republican National Committee’s Director of Hispanic Communications sent me the following statement in response:
“Actions speak louder than words, and the Democrat Party have failed to put forward accomplishments that resonate with Hispanic working families. The reality is that Democrats would say and do anything to win political points and will conveniently forget their promises. Hispanics will continue to reject their policies, which propose dramatic spending increases, massive government growth and higher taxes for hard working families and small businesses. On issue after issue the GOP and the Hispanic community share the same values and priorities”.

With all due respect to Hessy Fernandez, but you have to be kidding me! The current Republican administration has grown government at a faster and greater rate than any other administration in the past. This administration squandered the surplus left behind by Clinton’s administration and on top of that has plunged us into debt that our kids’ kids will have to pay for.
The divide between the rich and the middle class is wider than ever in the history of our country, including the Depression. More Hispanics are unable to attain or retain middle class status.
George Bush vetoed a bill that would have conferred health care to poor children, many of whom are Hispanic. Democrats like Obama and Clinton are offering Health Care solutions. Republicans continue to be loyal to insurance companies while close to 14 million Latinos in the U.S. do not have health insurance. The veto is particularly damaging to the 21.1 percent of Latino children who do not have health insurance.
The neoconservatives have vilified immigrants at every turn. They have refused to compromise on a sensible immigration bill and remain unwilling to recognize the Hispanic contributions to our country.
While Democrats reach out to the Hispanic community and show respect to their intelligence by agreeing to participate in the Univision debates, Republicans muttered ridiculous excuses for not participating. They did not participate because it is primary time and right now they are afraid that any hint of affiliation with Hispanics may upset their far right base. They rather forgo and ignore their Hispanic constituency. But their staffers claimed scheduling conflicts!!! I guess a year in advance invitation is not enough for Republicans. And their excuse should be an insult to every Hispanic in this country, do they really think we are that stupid? How out of touch!
When it comes to the environment this administration has set us back decades. We are the largest polluter in the world and yet the administration has made every effort to edit and quiet scientists who have tried to warn us of global warming and our hand in it. In the meantime and under the watchful eye of a Republican majority congress the EPA became lax on its regulations and corporations went to town dumping toxins at will. Unfortunately it is minorities who live around these toxic sites. These are the same people who are poor and lack insurance. They also lack representation and are unable to afford living elsewhere. Ms. Hessey, do us all a favor and travel to the toxic sites of Houston and see if you can’t find folks who speak Spanish there, my guess is you won’t have much of an opportunity to speak English there. Ask them for their medical record there might be none since they can’t afford to see a doctor. Oh wait, I stand corrected, they do see a doctor once their conditions are so advanced they go to a hospital to be told they are dying from cancer or that their children are now unable to play because their asthma is so bad.
So Ms. Hessey, actions do speak louder than words. As a Hispanic American patriot I have heard loud and clear what the Republican Party is saying to me, what it is saying to us.
It is saying we don’t matter, we don’t count and good luck.
The bigger question is why a Hispanic woman would lend herself to be a mouthpiece for them. But I doubt you will have the time to answer this post since you are too busy throwing mud on the Democrats who are actually trying to do something for our community… had time to check Kennedy’s immigration bill lately? How about Hillary and Obama’s health care reform proposal? Oh I forget, their proposal would mean our country’s richest (a tinny minority) would have to forgo the tax breaks that Republicans afforded them in order for us to care for our sick. That would be too much to ask right Ms. Hessey?
Let’s then talk about lies. While our intelligence community works day in and day out in dangerous and trying situations to keep us safe, the White House outs a CIA intelligence officer because her husband didn’t agree with us going to war in Iraq. Ask ex-press secretary Scott McClellan. He will tell you that the White House fed him lies about the CIA leak so that he would than feed them to the American people.
Under this administration America has lost respect around the world. Why do you think communism is rising in South America? While we were being mislead by the administration in the Middle East, crazy and dangerous people like Chavez were having a party with Democracy in the Southern Hemisphere. Do you really think Hispanic Americans are happy to hear Chavez is aligning himself with Iranian leader, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad?
Is this the Republican party that you want to sell to us? Are these really the values we share?
Do Hispanic Americans want to send their sons and daughters to Iran and fight a horrible war? Let’s see what was that song that McCain sang just the other day… oh yes, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
All we need is more Republican hawks in power not letting intelligence and diplomacy work.
Ms. Hessey, why again are you trying to hurt your own people by feeding them lies about the Republican party? What’s more, why are you hurting your country by spreading their hateful ideologies. Why?

THE Republican Party strategy on INMIGRTION has been one of the GREAT FAILURES of modern politics.
The Republicans had their chance for about 6 years to make a statement that the republican party would take care of the American people and they really showed they don’t care by their non-actions and clearly directed actions against inmigrants. However, it is not only what Republicans say; it is also what they don’t say. Republicans have been filibustering everything that comes up in the Senate.
But, it is also undeniable that the most vicious, the most wretched, the most offensive, the most revolting, the most ruthless, the most vilifying, the most repulsive actions and statements have come and are still coming from Republicans.
Just a few examples to illustrate it.
1) Sensenbrenner wanted the criminalization of these people.
2) Newt Gingrich, Former House speaker, who coined Spanish as the Language of the gheto
3) Fred Thompson just slammed Cubans, suggesting that they come to America not in search of freedom, but to bring “suitcase bombs.”
4) Dana Rohrabacher in his speeches is warning “the end of America as we know it”.
5) Tancredo, his motto: “a scourge that threatens the very future of our nation.”
6) J.D Hayworth, not reelected, but still instilling hate. No comments.
Sure enough, after 2006 various Republican congressional candidates ran nasty, anti-immigrant ads — some juxtaposing the faces of Hispanic immigrants with Islamic terrorists.
For many Republicans, the following is an undeniable truth: “illegal immigrant” = equals “all Hispanics” = “terrorists” = “Muslims” an statement so widely and shameless repeated over and over.
Read the following message from a Hispanic:
I’m former republican who left the party after the word “illegal” became code for Hispanic. Now many have just dropped illegal altogether and talk about how Hispanics are “ruining the country”. If you don’t believe go to any conservative site nowadays and you’ll see people bashing Hispanics. If a conservative Hispanic gets nominated as the head of an agency or as a judge, they are immediately attacked by conservatives. I’m sorry but in 08 if the republicans nominate another person who panders to Hispanic bashers, I’m not only voting for a democrat, I will be donating money and time.
By your actions, you shall be judged.!
